“…Sailing into the Porto Seguro Harbor I am gathering from the strong winds, somewhat mild climate, and the religion of this region that we are on the East of the line of demarcation so I am going to name this land for my country. I will name it Island of Vera Cruz for my homeland…”

“…Me and my crew are prepping to leave on our journey to India, all 13 ships and 1,500 men. We are taking many supplies such as bread and water to sustain us; we have also brought many dry foods, fruits and vegetables as we sail from place to place. We are headed Southwest in an effort to avoid the strong storms ahead…”
